Summer is over and winter is coming! I'm back in the DMV and slowly acclimatizing to the chillier temps setting in sporadically (literally we've volleyed between the forties and eighties the past two weeks). With September coming to an end I thought I'd share some of the things that have been on my radar this month kicking it off with podcasts!
Back on the podcast bandwagon
Lately, with the weather cooling down and still lots of time on my hands I've been getting into the groove of evening walks around the neighborhood. When I'm not chatting on the phone during my strolls I'm loving plugging in and tuning out to:
More than Running with Dana Giordano
Binge Mode: Game of Thrones ( because why not escape to Esos for a bit?)
Obviously being on the elliptical again regularly these are keeping my company during my sessions as well.
UA Goodies
I've gotten a ton of stuff in the mail lately from Under Armour to get ready for the fall. One of the things I was most excited about was the UA SPORTSMASK. While I'm luckily able to social distance on my runs, I've been using the mask during all my gym sessions and coaching. It's definitely surpassed my expectations and something I'll be using a TON.

Project Rock Sports Bra / Maddie's RUSH Shorts / Camo bra is coming soon, but you can check out the matching leggings here

My HOVR Velociti 3 / Maddie's HOVER Machina
The other UA product launch I've loved is the new Meridian Moisture infuse line. Dry skin during the winter? No worries, this new fabric helps you moisturize while you're wearing it. It's super soft and silky and skipping having to lather on lotion every day sounds like a dream come true to me.

The Essay
If you haven't read it yet you should and if you don't know what I'm talking about here it is. Your welcome.
Four Sigmatic Plant-Based Protein with Superfoods
Now that I'm officially back training I'm focused again on making sure I'm getting in my protein. For a long time, my protein of choice has been plant-based so when Four Sigmatic reached out with samples of theirs I was down to try it and unsurprisingly loved it! I've been a long time fan of their instant mocha coffees and recently added their ground coffee into my routine as well. You can check out all their options here and you can get 10% off your order with the code "FSProtein10".
Getting in those Vitamins
Speaking of getting back into fitness I've been upping my supplement game. If you follow me on Instagram or read this you already know I've been on top of my collagen game. In February I went to the UA Run Summit and heard from so many wonderful and knowledgable people on the topics of recovery and performance. During one of the sessions, they mentioned magnesium as a natural sleep aid. Sleep, thankfully, has never been a big issue for me so at the time I didn't think much of it. Flash forward to quarantine life and my hip acting for the first time in my life sleep was really alluding me. I started with melatonin, something I usually only take when I travel and my schedule is upturned. It knocked me out, but the groggy side effects were undesirable then I remember the magnesium tidbit, and after a quick google search found that a study from 2012 where magnesium was being used to combat insomnia in the elderly. It found that "supplementation of magnesium appears to improve subjective measures of insomnia". Figuring it couldn't hurt I started taking it before bed along with my usual Iron dose and what do you I've been sleeping like a rock.

For those of you who don't know I primarily eat a pescetarian diet, emphasizing wild-caught seafood and veggies as my source of nutrients, and I am anemic (cause unknown). B12 is something I've been supplementing for the past year and I prefer the liquid drops or sprays to pills. Recently I've been using the CCL Supplements Advanced Vitamin B12 Complex.
It's Election Season!
Last, but most certainly not least it's almost election time! This is the second election I've been able to participate in and the second I'll be working as a poll worker. Last time I choose to vote early, but with COVID and knowing I'll be exposed plenty on election day I opted to request an absentee ballot. Now more than ever it's important to plan out how you're going to cast your vote on November 3rd. Luckily there are a ton of resources out there to help you register as a first-time voter, update your registration, request a mail-in ballot, and locate your polling location. Here are a few to check out if you haven't already done so:
